Transmyocardial Revascularization

TMR is a unique procedure that involves the use of laser technology to place small holes in the heart muscle. These holes are intended to create additional channels for blood to nourish the heart. Candidates frequently suffer from severe chest pain (angina) despite taking medication, and are often severely limited in performing their daily activities. Patients who are candidates for TMR are those for whom coronary artery bypass surgery or angioplasty is no longer an option to treat their disease. Symptoms may be so severe that patients may even be awakened at night by chest pain. After carefully reviewing your current health and medical history, your doctor will discuss with you whether or not you may be a candidate for TMR.
