Foundation Support of St. Francis House
Gifts to the Providence St. Peter Foundation make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents.
Gifts Raise Spirits
Ann was among the first residents who moved into Providence St. Francis House in 1998. Through the years Ann has loved rolling her wheel chair through St. Francis House’s raised bed gardens, enjoying their beauty, and ending up at her assigned box to nurse along her cabbage, tomatoes, and other vegetables.
"I could be madder than hell about something," Ann says, "but when I go to the garden a peace comes over me and I forget what I was mad about." Despite a myriad of health conditions that might keep anyone else in bed, the therapeutic gardens at St. Francis House inspire Ann to go outside, keeping her active with something she loves. "On sunny days there's no place I'd rather be."
Over half of the 70 residents at St. Francis cultivate their own raised bed garden boxes, and virtually all residents enjoy strolling through the tranquil garden area and keeping track of their favorite plants and vegetables. Providence employees and volunteers often enjoy visiting the gardens where they might find Ann and other St. Francis House residents happily working in their areas of the garden.
The garden at St. Francis House is just one example of how charitable contributions make a direct positive impact in the lives of many seniors.
