Overview

The Biotherapy Program is part of the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center in the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute, located at Providence Portland Medical Center.

We offer state-of-the-art treatments for patients with metastatic kidney cancer and metastatic melanoma. The Biotherapy Program features a high-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) immunotherapy program that is unique in Oregon. We are among the busiest high-dose IL-2 centers in the nation with more than 130 patient admissions for this therapy every year.

For more information about high-dose IL-2 or the Biotherapy Program, please call Lyn Glenn, F.N.P. at 503-215-6315.

Information

IL-2 program

Interleukin-2 is a protein, normally present in small amounts in the body. It has powerful effects on the body’s immune system and enhances the ability of some white blood cells, called T-lymphocytes, to kill tumor cells. IL-2 is produced by recombinant DNA technology, using a genetically engineered bacteria that is purified to produce medicine for use in cancer treatment.

Treatment options

In addition to providing high-dose IL-2 treatment, the Biotherapy Program offers innovative clinical research trials conducted by scientists in the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center. Learn more about the treatment options available to patients in our clinical trials.
