Overview

The Providence Thoracic Surgery Program provides specialized surgical treatment for disorders of chest organs, particularly the lungs and esophagus. As a part of Providence’s Thoracic Oncology Program, the surgery program is focused on excellent, combined-specialist care of cancer patients. We are proud of our accomplishments and our national reputation for thoracic surgery care.

Multidisciplinary approach

The program's designated multidisciplinary team consists of surgeons, nurses, operating room technicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, counselors and pharmacy experts. This diverse team of medical professionals share a common goal of improving patient care and post-surgery outcomes for patients with chest cancers and other diseases. The program achieves its goals through continual scientific innovation, expert operative care and through standardized care that emphasizes treatments that are grounded in the most solid scientific evidence.

The outcomes of major lung cancer surgeries such as lobectomies and pneumonectomies are better when performed by a Providence Thoracic Surgeon, according to 2005 to 2007 data released by Providence Thoracic Surgery Program.
