Michael R. McClung, M.D., Director,
Oregon Osteoporosis Center

 

Dr. McClung is a well-known clinician, educator and clinical investigator in the field of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. He is a board-certified endocrinologist with a special interest in disorders of skeletal and mineral metabolism. He completed his medical training at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, his endocrinology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and is a Fellow in the American College of Endocrinology. As founding director of the Oregon Osteoporosis Center in Portland, Oregon, he coordinates a multi-disciplinary center for the evaluation and management of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disorders, including the region’s largest bone density laboratory. His Center has been a major participant in many clinical trials evaluating the use of new diagnostic devices and new treatments for osteoporosis and other bone diseases. 

Dr. McClung is the author of many publications and book chapters and is an internationally recognized speaker. He is Editor-in-Chief of a national osteoporosis newsletter and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Osteoporosis Foundation. He has recently been appointed as a member of the Council of Scientific Advisors for the International Osteoporosis Foundation. He also serves as Assistant Director of the Department of Medical Education at Portland Providence Medical Center, and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University.
