Perioperative Services
The hospital opened a new 11-bed post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and a 25-bed perioperative unit to care for patients just before and after surgery. Completed May 2005.
Critical Care Unit
The coronary care unit and intensive care unit were reconfigured into one larger unit, now called the Critical Care Unit (CCU). CCU features 21 private patient rooms, automated patient lift devices, a family waiting area and private physician/family consultation room. Completed August 2004.
Public Concourse/Lobby
A new concourse surrounds the front of the hospital building, allowing direct, easy access to many outpatient services. It also separates patient and public traffic flow to improve patient privacy. Completed August 2004.
Medical and Surgical Short Stay Units
Patients coming to the main hospital for short-stay medical procedures will find a new 19-bed unit. Completed January 15, 2004.
Emergency Center
An all new emergency center, three times the current size, opened June 10, 2003. The center is designed to alleviate wait times, better accommodate patients with different levels of severity and allow comfortable space for patients, families, physicians and staff. Laboratory
A new 16,000-square-foot laboratory is located above the new emergency center on the second floor. The lab provides cytology, hematology, chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, pathology, blood bank and transfusion services. The lab opened June 1, 2003.
400-Stall Parking Garage
More close-in parking for patients became available as employees moved their cars to the new parking garage in January 2003. The new garage is located near the Emilie Gamelin Pavilion.
Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Two new cardiac cath labs opened in December 2001. The new area and equipment were designed to accommodate growing patient volumes and emergency procedures, reduce wait times and improve scheduling for patients and physicians.
Sterile Processing
The sterile processing department was expanded and renovated in 2002. The area features new equipment for faster turnaround times in processing sterile tools and equipment.
Patient Care Tower Infrastructure
Improvements have been made to the water, heat, air and electrical supplies in the nursing tower. Other completed work includes the replacement of the pneumatic tube system, installation of a telecommunications microcell system and bracing of outside stairwells for earthquake safety.
