Gov. Locke to Present Providence Centralia Hospital with a Washington State Quality Award

CENTRALIA -- Gov. Gary Locke will present a Washington State Quality Award to Providence Centralia Hospital tomorrow -- the first health care organization in the state to win this award.

The Washington State Quality Award program was established by the Legislature in 1994 to recognize businesses and organizations that achieve performance excellence. Applicants are rated on seven criteria, including leadership; strategic planning; focus on patients, other customers and markets; information and analysis; staff well-being and satisfaction; process management; and organizational performance results.

Providence Centralia Hospital earned the achievement award level, indicative of the hospital’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement in patient care, planning, staffing and financial stewardship.

"This award is a reflection of our staff and physicians and the commitment they bring to the organization every day," said Steve Burdick, hospital administrator. "We are proud to be the first healthcare organization in Washington to receive this honor."

Providence Centralia Hospital, part of the Providence Health System, is a not-for-profit, 191-bed hospital serving Lewis County with comprehensive medical, surgical and educational services.

The Washington State Quality Award, established as a nonprofit organization in 1994, sets standards of excellence that help business, education, health care, nonprofits and government develop practices to improve the products and services they provide.
