May 2005
The hospital opened a new 25-bed perioperative (short stay) unit to care for patients before and after surgery. The unit features private patient rooms with glass doors and flat screen TVs, a larger room designed for heart patients, and four new charting stations for nurses and staff.
November 2004
The new post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) opened on Nov. 29, featuring 11 patient care bays and a negative airflow isolation room.
August 2004
The hospital opened its public concourse and lobby. The concourse improves patient privacy by separating public traffic from patient areas. The design makes it easier to access hospital services.
May 2004
The first phase of the diagnostic imaging remodel is completed, featuring private ultrasound suites for patients. The coronary care unit/intensive care unit renovation will be completed in August, followed by the opening of a new public concourse and lobby.
January 2004
Patients receiving short-term medical care following diagnostic imaging and cardiac catheterization procedures will welcome a new 19-bed medical short stay unit opening Jan. 15. The area will feature state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and provide patients with increased privacy and a more restful environment.
December 2003
On Dec. 29, you will find a new temporary entrance to the hospital (to the left of the existing entrance). The main hospital lobby is being relocated in order to begin the next phase of construction on the new public concourse and lobby.
October/November 2003
If you're coming to the hospital, you will notice some construction activity near the main entrance. You may encounter one-way roads and temporarily blocked parking areas. New campus directional signs will help you locate hospital services. Thanks for your patience!
September 2003
We've launched three new Campus Renewal projects. We're doubling the size of the diagnostic imaging department, creating a new medical short stay unit and building a new public concourse and lobby. The concourse and lobby will provide patients and visitors convenient access to diagnostic imaging, surgery and admission services. The concourse will serve as the new main hospital entry and improve patient privacy by separating public traffic from patient areas. This project is scheduled for completion in August 2004.
June 2003
The new emergency center and laboratory are open! The emergency center features 39 private patient treatment rooms with cardiac monitors, special equipment for pediatric patients, four women's health rooms, two major trauma rooms, six cardiac and stroke rooms with new equipment, a crisis services (mental health) unit and a rooftop helipad. With triple the space, three enclosed triage booths and a new family waiting area, patients and visitors will find more privacy and comfort throughout their visit.
The lab features a new information system and two major lab instruments that will improve processes and generate fast patient lab results. Watch our video.
April/May 2003
We're adding the finishing touches on the new emergency center and laboratory addition. Outside, we will be paving and landscaping. Clinical lab staff will begin moving into their new space at the end of May. The new emergency center will start serving patients on June 10.
February/March 2003
Just a few more months until the new emergency center and laboratory addition opens. Mark your calendar for a special celebration on Saturday, June 7. A blessing ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m. followed by an open house until 5 p.m. Take a tour of the new building!
January 2003
The new employee parking garage is open! This frees up approximately 200 more parking spaces close to the front of the hospital for patients and visitors!
September/October 2002
Construction of the new emergency department and laboratory addition remains on schedule to be completed by June 2003. Presently, preparations are under way to seal the building for the winter weather. The first and second floor windows, roofing, helipad and exterior panel walls will be installed by November.
August 2002
On Aug. 2, Providence St. Peter Hospital employees and Sellen construction workers celebrated a milestone as the top beam was placed on the new emergency department and laboratory addition. At a special "Topping Off" ceremony, hundreds of workers signed the beam before it was lifted into place. This day also marked the completion of the structural framework on the new addition. See photos.
June/July 2002
Each day brings a new scene in the construction area. Beams are rising as the structure of the new emergency department/laboratory addition develops. Renovation work is well under way in the surgery department and the site of the new employee parking garage continues to take shape.
May 2002
Foundation construction continues to progress on the emergency department/laboratory addition. Work also is under way in the surgery department. Some of the highlights include new flooring in five operating rooms; a new reception station; electrical infrastructure upgrades; a new air handling system; and the addition of a 2,848-square-foot storage area. The surgery remodel will be completed in September 2002.
April 2002
Parking relief is on the way! On April 22, construction work began on a new employee parking garage at the hospital. The garage will contain 400 stalls and is expected to be completed in March 2003. This will free up parking spaces close to the hospital for patients and visitors. Also this month, we completed the remodel of our sterile processing department.
March 2002
A network of concrete footings and grade beams will begin forming the foundation of the new emergency department/laboratory addition. These will connected to "concrete poles" underground to stabilize the soil.
February 2002
While some construction crews work outside on the new emergency department, others are inside remodeling the hospital's sterile processing department. When the sterile processing department remodel is completed at the end of April, we will see faster turnaround times in processing sterile tools and equipment.
January 2002
This month we begin digging the foundation of a new 100-square-foot addition, which includes a new emergency department, three times the size of the existing facility. Read more...
December 2001
Two new cardiac catheterization labs opened Dec. 10, offering the latest technology to detect and treat coronary artery disease. The labs will also be used for performing peripheral vascular and electrophysiology procedures. The 4,600-square-foot expansion increases capacity to perform 500-700 more procedures per year.
October 2001
Completion of our new cardiac catheterization labs is growing near. This month, we're installing ceiling tiles, hanging doors and putting the finishing touches on painting.
August 2001
Roofing of the cath lab began early this month. Before the end of the month, a concrete floor will be poured on the inside of the cath lab, and wall framing and roof work will be completed.
May 2001
Expansion of the cardiac catheterization labs began in mid-May. Two new cardiac catheterization labs will open by December 2001, bringing the total to four. The Providence St. Peter Foundation approved a $1 million grant to fund part of the cath lab expansion. The expansion will better accommodate emergency procedures, reduce wait times and improve scheduling for patients and physicians.
