Inpatient Family Program

Chemical dependency is a disease that affects the whole family. Family members and all close relationships are affected by the behavior of the addicted person.

Providence St. Peter Chemical Dependency Center's Inpatient Family Program offers an opportunity for those closest to the patient to begin their own recovery.  Through lectures, films and family counseling, family members begin to understand how the disease has affected each one of them.

Our services include separate adult and adolescent treatment programs. Each program has its own family component.  There are no additional charges to participate in the Family Program.  We also encourage family members to attend 12-step groups such as Al-AnonCODA and Families Anonymous on a regular basis.

While families are involved in the Family Program we ask that they abstain from any mood altering chemicals (alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, etc).  By abstaining, it is supportive to the patient and it helps the family member understand what the patient may be experiencing.  If there are concerns regarding another family member’s chemical use, counselors are available to provide referrals for assessments.

Saturday Education
The Family Education Program for both adult and adolescent patients begins on the first Saturday after admission and is held at the Center from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.  The goal of this program is to assist family members in developing an awareness of the progression of the disease of chemical dependency, how the family has been affected and to help family members learn constructive ways to be supportive.

Visitation (Adult Patients Only)
A
ttendance at the Saturday Family Program is required to visit the adult patients. Visiting hours are from 12-3 p.m. on Saturdays. You must be on time and attend the morning session to visit patients (children may visit without attending the family program).  Families are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase a lunch at the Center and eat with the patients following the program.  There are no visiting hours for adolescent patients on Saturdays.
