We provide a range of services to help you develop a personalized program for managing your diabetes. Our team includes a registered nurse and registered dietitian who are certified diabetes educators, an exercise physiologist and a medical director. Diabetes Education Education is available for newly diagnosed and previously diagnosed people seeking the latest information. People with diabetes meet individually with our registered dietitian and registered nurse. Topics may include the following: - Meal planning: carbohydrate counting, weight management, low-fat meals, low-sodium meals and dining out
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Physical activity guidelines
- Risk management and complication prevention
- Medication and insulin instruction
- Psychosocial support
- Insulin pump therapy
- Continuous glucose monitoring
Diabetes Classes After your initial visit, you may want to return for more individual education and/or come to our classes. Day and evening classes are held every month, taught by a registered nurse, registered dietitian and exercise physiologist. Individual and group sessions are available for gestational diabetes. Family Support A support system is an important aspect of your diabetes management program. We welcome a family member or friend to attend your programs with you. After Your Program Boldt Diabetes Center team members will contact you after you have completed the full program to ensure that your diabetes management plan is still working for you. Insurance Coverage Insurance coverage for diabetes education is mandated by the 1997 Washington State Diabetes Cost Reduction Act. You may be eligible for partial or full coverage. Please contact your insurance company to verify your coverage level. Physician referral is required. Medicare patients are eligible for 10 hours of initial instruction and two hours every year after that. We Serve All The Boldt Diabetes Center serves all people, regardless of your ability to pay.
