Pastoral Services

As caregivers, we realize that hospitalization can be a stressful time - both for you and your family. If you want to talk with a chaplain, please inform your nurse. If you would like a visit from your own minister, priest or rabbi, our chaplain can help notify your clergy person. The chapel is always open for prayer and quiet meditation.

 What We Can Offer

 bullet Spiritual Care:
As part of Providence Newberg Medical Center's mission to provide total care for our patients, the Department of Spiritual Care is here to offer pastoral guidance and spiritual comfort to patients and families. This service is available for persons of all faiths throughout our hospital.

bullet Chaplains:
The Medical Center has a chaplain on staff, the Reverend Gregg Selander. In addition, numerous on-call and volunteer chaplains from various denominations assist in providing a 24-hour availability of spiritual care. Our staff can also contact a priest, minister or rabbi of your choice.

bullet The Medical Center Experience:
Your medical center stay may include many experiences and feelings. There might be anxiety, hope, anger, faith or loneliness. For patients and families, concerns may arise regarding life's meaning, God, ethics or religion. The chaplains are available to listen and reflect with you on your ideas, feelings and faith. The support of prayer, scriptures, sacraments or spiritual counsel may aid in your journey toward health and wholeness, and lead to inner peace and strength.

bullet The Medical Center Chapel:
The Chapel is located on the second floor in the Medical Center. It is open to all faiths, twenty-four hours a day.

bullet Religious and Devotional Literature:
A Bible is provided in each inpatient room. In addition, chaplains can provide you with literature from various faith traditions.
