Prayer of St. Ignatius

"Take, Lord, receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, my whole will, all that I have and all that I possess. You gave it all to me, Lord; I give it all back to you. Do with it as you will, according to your good pleasure. Give me your love and your grace; for with this I have all that I need."

A.M.D.G. P.S. Wednesday, October 9, I will say a votive Mass in honor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors, for you in second intention. A.A. Ragaru, SJ

In September 1901, Mother Joseph wrote to the Reverend Aloysius Ragaru, SJ, at Gonzaga University, Spokane, who had directed her retreat earlier in the year. She asked him to send the Prayer of St. Ignatius, which he had mentioned to her: "Now I am incapable of doing anything, Reverend Father, except prepare myself for my approaching end.... If you have this prayer close at hand I would be happy to have a copy. What helped the saints to gain entrance into eternity may be a means for me also." Father Ragaru responded with this hand-written copy of the prayer.

St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) was the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). He frequently recited this prayer, and suggested it to those seeking his spiritual direction to encourage their total commitment to God. A.M.D.G.--"To the greater glory of God"--is the motto of St. Ignatius and the Jesuits. English translation by Sister Thérèrse Carignan, 1995.
