We’re adding value to Alaska health care one student at a time. The South Central Area Health Education (AHEC) is a collaboration between the University of Alaska School of Nursing and the the Providence Alaska Learning Institute (PALI). The SC AHEC also works closely with the Alaska Family Medicine Residency at Providence Alaska Medical Center. We enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, by improving the distribution of health care professionals through community/academic educational partnerships. High School Students Experience a day in the life of a health professional by job shadowing with a care professional. Investigate health careers with an interactive presentation specifically for junior high and high school classes. Earn while you learn about health care careers by participating as a summer internship program. There are multiple opportunities offered in either four-, six- or eight-week health care immersion programs that are coordinated with local community health professionals, and other resources in Anchorage. Learn first-hand with coordinated clinical experiences about the specific needs of under served or ethnically diverse people.
