Providence Health & Services Alaska was named the 2006 Employer of Choice among large companies by the Anchorage Society for Human Resource Management. The 2006 Employer of Choice Award was open to all employers in the Greater Anchorage area. The Anchorage Society for Human Resource Management is a chapter of The Society for Human Resource Management, the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management.
"Being a recognized Employer of Choice goes beyond the traditional view of high salaries and great benefits," the society noted in a statement. "It encompasses all components that make an organization’s employees their most competitive advantage. Employers of Choice are companies that place a high value on human assets and set the benchmark for everyone else in how they recruit, protect, develop, lead and retain their employees."
Awards were made on three levels: small employer (up to 50 employees), medium employer (50 - 300 employees), and large employer (over 300 employees).
The small employer winner was The Wilson Agency, LLC, a locally owned and independent employee benefits and financial services advisor/broker. Winning the medium employer category was Alaska Children's Services, a non-profit organization that provides treatment for young people with behavioral and/or emotional difficulties.
Representing more than 205,000 individual members, the Society’s mission is both to serve the needs of human resource professionals and to advance the human resources profession.
