Dr. Heather Macomber, PhD.

 

Dr. Heather Macomber conducts psychological and neuropsychological evaluations with children six years and older, adolescents, and adults, as well as evaluations with adults. In October 2005, she joined Providence Behavioral Medicine Group where her practice serves all medical and psychiatric inpatient units, as well as outpatient clients from across the state.  She evaluates a broad range of psychological and neurocognitive issues with a special interest on traumatic brain injury for pediatric and adult populations.  In July 2006, she was appointed to the Alaska Brain Injury Network, the state advisory board for traumatic brain injury, and currently serves as co-chair for the Program and Planning committee.  She also contributes to a national advisory group focusing on treatment and rehabilitation issues specific to women with traumatic brain injury.  She is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, American Psychological Association, and Alaska Psychological Association. 

Dr. Macomber earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Neuropsychology from University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan. Her doctoral dissertation analyzed MMPI-2 profiles for female defendants in the criminal justice system.  She completed practica in neuropsychology at several sites, including the John Dingell Veterans Medical Center in Detroit and the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  She has experience with clients from diverse backgrounds in race, religion, and socio economic status, including men and women deemed incompetent to stand trial or not guilty by reason of insanity in the criminal forensic setting.

She completed her pre-doctoral internship through Wayne State University with a focus on adult and pediatric neuropsychological assessments in the hospital setting.  She conducted her post-doctoral work at an outpatient, community-based treatment center for traumatic brain injury where she served as Associate Clinical Director.  In this setting, she was responsible for conducting neuropsychological evaluations and civil forensic evaluations.  She also supervised clinical staff, conducted individual and group therapy, and created, implemented, and supervised treatment plans for cognitive rehabilitation services for clients in the semi-independent living and day-treatment programs, and supervising clinical staff.  Dr. Macomber also conducted civil forensic/neuropsychological evaluations for clients with traumatic brain injury through a private practice prior to moving to Alaska in 2005.
