Starting January 1, 2006, Medicare began offering insurance coverage for prescription drugs. This plan is referred to as Medicare Part D and is designed to help Medicare eligible individuals save on their prescription drug costs.
In order to receive this benefit, an individual must enroll in a Medicare approved prescription drug plan. Unlike Medicare Part A and B, insurance companies and other private companies will work with Medicare to offer these plans, so individuals will need to choose the plan that best fits their needs.
