Providence Breakthrough provides assessment and treatment services in Anchorage for adults and families affected by chemical use and dependency. We acknowledge chemical use and chemical dependency to be medical conditions which often require a variety of treatment options. As a disease entity, chemical dependency involves not only physical, but also emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions. Of paramount importance to all clients is a careful assessment and placement in an appropriate level of treatment. All Breakthrough programs utilize an abstinence model and incorporate 12-Step recovery. A cornerstone of the Breakthrough program is the Family Program. Breakthrough believes that addiction is not just an issue for the client, but for all the family members as well.
Once an individual completes a thorough bio-psycho-social assessment by a trained assessment counselor, it is determined whether or not that person is appropriate for placement in treatment with Breakthrough. Diagnostic criteria are outlined in the DSM-IV-TR, which is the American Psychiatric Association's published standard of diagnosis. If the individual is then admitted, placement in one of the Breakthrough Programs is based on that client’s individual needs and as clinically indicated according to the American Society of Addictive Medicine (ASAM) criteria. While program placement is determined by each client's particular needs, there are certain treatment components which are standard for all clients:
- Abstinence from all alcohol and mood altering addictive chemicals
- Participation in 12 Step Recovery while in treatment
- Random urinalysis
- Breathalyzers
- Family involvement
- Treatment assignments
- Physical exam for clients admitted to the program
If you are uncertain if you or someone you care about has a problem with chemicals, especially alcohol, take this simple test. If action is indicated, contact us to set up an appointment for an assessment.
"I got a thorough understanding of the roots of my own chemical dependency and the reasons why I relapsed after 8 years of not drinking. Most of all I finally understood the right stepping stones to begin my own recovery." - Grace
