Education and early prevention are the most effective ways of reducing the effects of addiction on the community and its members. Therefore, the Breakthrough staff is available to give either formal or informal educational presentations. The Anchorage School District, Providence's own Alaska Family Practice Residency, and the Anchorage Police Department are some organizations which have requested formal presentations. Also, a number of smaller groups in Anchorage and around the state have accessed educational services to address specific problems and investigate solutions. Whether giving a lecture to service providers or being available to answer questions about how to help an addicted employee, friend, student, or family member, the Breakthrough staff is proficient at developing a program specifically designed for the identified issue. Some of the topics which have been requested in the past are:
-
Signs and Symptoms of Addiction
-
What is addiction?
-
How is the disease of addiction treated?
-
Gateway drugs
-
How to take care of oneself when in recovery.
-
Treatment resources
-
Dual diagnosis/co-existing disorders
-
