What Should you bring?
How long you and your physician expect you to be at Providence Extended Care Center will help you decide what items to bring. We encourage you and your family to make your part of your shared bedroom as "home-like" as possible. Bring things that are comforting, such as family photos, a plant or nice picture for your wall, and things you normally use at home. Consider items such as a TV, VCR or radio. We encourage family and friends to help you decorate your bulletin board with photos, cards, a calendar, or pictures. Place your name on each personal possession to assist us if they are misplaced. We do not recommend that you bring items of value or larges amounts of money, we do have a resident bank that can assist with finanical resources, see Resident Services.
For most residents, clothing that is casual, durable and washable is the best choice. You will wear your own clothes each day as you participate in therapy sessions and activities and eat in the dining room. On-site commercial laundry services are provided. When you arrive, we will place a name label on each item of clothing you bring.
At Providence Extended Care Center, resident rooms have two beds, so you will most likely have a roommate. Sharing a room with another resident can help reduce some of the loneliness you may feel moving into unfamiliar place. If you find you and your roommate are incompatible, you may request to move to another room when one is available.
Planning Your Care
Adjusting to life at Providence Extended Care Center is easier for those who become involved in planning their own care. Please ask questions freely. You cannot give us too much information or ask too many questions.
We encourage you and your family to help us understand your desires related to medical needs and to let us know your preferences in such things as bathing, dressing, eating and housekeeping. We also want to know your interests and hobbies and encourage you to participate in the social activities of the facility.
Your doctor directs your medical treatment, and staff at Providence Extended Care Center develop a plan of care especially for you.
A care conference will be scheduled about three weeks after you enter Providence Extended Care Center. The purpose of the care conference is to be sure your plan of care is meeting your needs to the extent possible, and to review plans for you discharge. You and your family are invited to participate along with staff from all of the departments providing your care. At the care conference, you are encouraged to ask questions and offer suggestions. Meetings also can be scheduled with any individual or department when you have a concern about your care. Please do not wait for your care conference to bring concerns or questions to the attention of the RN or your Social Worker.
Visitors
During your stay at Providence Extended Care Center, we want your family and friends to continue to be a part of your life. We have found that many residents seem to adapt better to life at Extended Care when their families are involved in their daily lives. Visiting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. You may visit with your guests in your room or in the lounges, lobby or courtyards. Or, invite your friend or family to bring their appetite and dine with you.
Your family is also encouraged to come to our Family Night Socials. These socials are held on the third Wednesday of the month, September - May, from 6:30 - 7:30. The Socials provide an opportunity for families and residents to build relationships with other families and the Administrative Team of Providence Extended Care. There is always something delicious to snack on!
