Foundation Board of Directors

 

The Providence Alaska Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting the mission of Providence Health & Services Alaska.  Our board members partner with the Foundation and our community to continue the essential work of the Sisters of Providence: advancing health care excellence and access for all Alaskans.


BOARD OFFICERS


Barbara CashBarbara Cash - Chair
President/CEO RIM Design LLC. 

Ms. Cash has been a resident of Alaska since 1974.  She is married with two children.  She was named Alaska's Small Business Person of the Year in 2000.  She is also recognized as a BP/YWCA Woman of Achievement, Anchorage Chamber member, ATHENA Society member and recipient of the 2005 ATHENA Award.  Ms. Cash's son was born at Providence.  RIM Design provides interior space planning and design for Providence.
 


Suzanne R. LittleSuzanne R. Little - Vice Chair

Park Planner, Municipality of Anchorage 

Ms. Little returned to Alaska in 2006 after living five years in Washington.  In the past, Ms. Little served on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly and in the Alaska State Senate.  She appreciates those who dedicate their time to public service.  She has a 12-year old daughter.  Ms. Little is a fledgling triathlete and an accomplished musician.

 


Robert (Bob) ShakeRobert "Bob" Shake - Treasurer
Senior Vice President, Northrim Bank

Mr. Shake was born in the old Providence Hospital on L Street and raised in Anchorage.  He has 28 years of commercial banking experience.   He has held leadership positions in various community service and professional organizations in Anchorage.  He is married and has three children who were all born at Providence Alaska Medical Center.  Mr. Shake states that the Providence mission is extremely important to his family and him, and he is honored to serve on the Foundation Board. 
 

Kevin Hostler

Kevin M. Hostler - Past Chair
President/CEO Alyeska Pipeline Service Company 

Mr. Hostler has been a resident of Alaska for 4 years.  In 2009 he was inducted into the State of Alabama's Engineering Hall of Fame and in 2008 was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow at the University of Alabama.  He serves on the board of the Alaska Oil & Gas Association, the Association of Oil Pipelines and the American Petroleum Institute.  He also serves on the UAA Advisory Board, is secretary of the Foraker Group, and co-chair of the UAF Vision Task Force.  He received the 2008 American Petroleum Institute Distinguished Operator Award and the 2008 Environmental Performance Award.  Mr. Hostler served as the 2006-2007 Chair for the American Health Association Walk and was Chair of the Providence Alaska Foundation Corporate Council.

Maribeth ConwayMaribeth Conway, JD, CTFA 
President/Owner of The Conway Law Firm 

Ms. Conway represents clients in all types of estate planning matters.  She is a member of the Alaska, Washington and Oregon State Bar Associations, the American and Anchorage Bar Associations, the Anchorage Estate Planning Council, the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.  Ms. Conway is a fourth generation Alaskan who was born at Providence Medical Center.   She is married with one son who was also born at Providence Medical Center.  Her late father, John Conway, served as a member on the Providence Hospital Advisory Council for many years.


Jean CraciunJean Craciun
President/CEO Craciun Research 

Ms.Craciun is a 30-year resident of Alaska.  Craciun Research is celebrating 20 years in business in 2009.  She is an ATHENA Award recipient and has a varsity letter in basketball from the University of Cincinnati.  She is a breast cancer survivor of 10 years and received all her care from the wonderful professionals at Providence Alaska Medical Center.  Ms. Cracium and her partner, Amy Young, have two children Anthony and Anna Sofia.  Her sister is an Administrator in the Labor & Delivery Unit at Providence Hospital in Hood River Oregon.  Ms. Craciun has conducted research for Providence for more than 25 years.
 

Max EasleyMax Easley
Senior Vice President of BP Exploration Alaska Inc. 

“I consider it a privilege to serve on the Providence Alaska Foundation Board.  I was born at Providence Hospital and I am delighted to see the tremendous institution it has become within the Alaska communities.”  Mr. Easley recently returned to Alaska after 12 years working for BP overseas. Most recently, he led a division of BP’s North Sea business. Prior to this he was the Chief Financial Officer of BP Trinidad and Tobago. He is a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is now a member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Board of Visitors. Mr. Easley is married with two children.
 

Max EasleyLeslie Ellis
President/CEO Credit Union 1 

Ms. Ellis and her husband Don, an Anchorage attorney, are originally from Massachusetts.  They have lived in Anchorage 30 years and have a very spoiled dog named “Bear”.  Ms. Ellis is a lifelong Red Sox fan, veracious reader and a marginal gardener.  A considerable portion of her personal time is spent on Credit Union 1 related community service and internal “culture” events.  She was named a 1999 YWCA Woman of Achievement and in 2008 was inducted into the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Athena Society.  She most recently received the national “Credit Union Hero” award from CUNA, the national trade association for America’s 8500 credit unions.  As a result of receiving this award, Ms. Ellis is one of four eligible to win the national “Hero of the Year” award for 2009.


Jim EricksonJames Erickson
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Koniag, Inc. 

Mr. Erickson has worked as a certified public accountant, and spent a substantial portion of his professional career in various executive capacities in the forest products industry. He has lived in Alaska for 25 years, the past six in Anchorage. Mr. Erickson is married with two children. His wife is a registered nurse at Providence Alaska Medical Center and his daughter is a registered nurse at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.
 


Johnny GibbonsJohnny O. Gibbons
Owner, Law Office of Dickerson & Gibbons, Inc. 

Mr. Gibbons is a member of the Alaska Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the National Bar Association. He has practiced law in Alaska for over 20 years.  Areas of practice include Business Law, Probate and Estates and Family Law.  Mr. Gibbons has been past chair of the Salvation Army Board, Assistive Technology of Alaska, and is a Trustee of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the Anchorage Alumni Foundation.  Mr. Gibbons has also served as Commissioner on the Municipality of Anchorage's Parks and Recreation Commission and its Planning and Zoning Commission.  Mr. Gibbons is married with one son. He has been a patient at Providence and wants to help the Foundation meet the growing needs of our community.

Johnny GibbonsCynthia (Cindy) Gough
Director, Acute Care Behavioral Health Service
Providence Health & Services Alaska 

Ms. Gough has been a resident of Alaska since  1981.  She is married and has one son and two grandchildren, ages 2 and 10.  Ms. Gough has worked for Providence Medical Center (PAMC) for 28 years.  She worked as a staff nurse on many units before moving into her leadership role.  Ms. Gough enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, snow machining, travel, reading and cooking.  She has been a guest speaker for UAA nursing classes and other community venues, has served on United Way Review panels, is Chair of the Clinical Pastoral Education Advisory Board at PAMC, and is the 2004 recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award and Crystal Glacier Award at PAMC.  “I am proud to serve in the Providence ministry and am committed to the mission.”
  

Helene HardingHelene E. Harding
Vice President, North Slope Operations and Development, ConocoPhillips 

Ms. Harding has lived in Alaska since January 2008.  She is a member of the Gulf Coast United Way Women's Initiative Steering Committee, Ocean Star Board member, and a National Offshore Industries Association (NOIA) Board member.  Ms. Harding is married and her husband Patrick Briggs, DPM, has surgical privileges at Providence.
 



Shane Langland.Shane Langland

President Eagle Enterprises, Inc. and President Airglas, Inc. 

Mr. Langland was born and raised in Alaska.  He was Chair of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Board 2004-2005, he is an APU Trustee 2006-2009 and a board member of the Alaska Center for Performing Arts Center.  Mr. Langland is married with three children - all of them born at Providence Medical Center.

Neonatologist & Medical Director of the Providence Newborn Intensive Care Unit 

Dr. Lou has practiced neonatology in the Providence NICU for the past 7 years.  She is Vice President of the Alaska Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Dr. Lou serves on the board of March of Dimes-Alaska and chairs the AAP-District VIII Section on Perinatal Medicine.  She is also a faculty member of the WWAMI Medical School. It is a privilege to serve the people of Alaska in the functional academic and referral center for medicine in this great state!
 

Mary MystromMary Mystrom
Owner American Multiplex, LLC. 

Ms. Mystrom has been a resident of Alaska for 37 years.  She serves on the Board of Covenant House, is an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church and was recognized as the YWCA 2009 Woman of Achievement.  Two of Ms. Mystrom's children were born at Providence Alaska Medical Center plus her husband spent an entire summer in the burn center.  Having walked by her sister's side through breast cancer treatment, Ms. Mystrom is aware of the void that existed in Anchorage prior to the opening of the Providence Alaska Cancer Center and is so proud of the new Cancer Center.  
 

Tadd OwensTadd Owens
Director, Government and Public Affairs - Pioneer Natural Resources Alaska, Inc.

Mr. Owens has been a resident of Alaska for 25 years. He is an Executive Committee member of both the Alaska Humanities Forum, Anchorage, and the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, Juneau. He is a Commissioner of the Port of Anchorage and a board member of the Pratt Museum, Homer. Mr. Owens is married with one son, who was born at Providence Alaska Medical Center, and one daughter.
 


Glenn PetersonGlenn Peterson

District Manager, Carr's/Safeway: Alaska Operations 

Mr. Peterson has been a resident of Alaska for the past 35 years.  He serves on the UAA Endowment Committee and as a board member on the Salvation Army Rehab Center. Mr. Peterson has had the opportunity to see first hand the impact Providence Medical Center has on Alaska.  He recently lost a close friend to cancer who was treated in the Providence Alaska Cancer Center.  The care and compassion of everyone was truly a testament to the Providence mission statement. 
 


Paul PetersonPaul A. Peterson, MD, FACC

Cardiologist at the Alaska Heart Institute 

Dr. Peterson has been an Alaska resident for the past 18 years.  He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society.  Dr. Peterson is married and has 3 children.  He has practiced cardiology at Providence since he arrived in Alaska and thoroughly enjoys providing care to Alaskans.
 


 

David RandDavid Rand
CEO, ATS Alaska 

Mr. Rand has been an Alaska resident for the past 18 years.  He serves on the UAA Development Council, the ASIS (formerly American Society of Industrial Security), and the Alaska Society of Hospital Managers and Engineers. Mr. Rand is married and has two sons.  He and his family have received medical care at Providence Alaska Medical Center on several occasions.  The care was exemplary and he is proud to serve on the Foundation Board.  Mr. Rand serves as Chair of the Donor Relations Committee of the Board. 
 

Al ParrishKimberly (Kim) Reitmeier
Chief of Staff, Alyeska Pipeline Service Company

Ms. Reitmeier is a Sugpiaq Alutiiq of Kodiak Island and a lifelong Alaskan who has lived in Anchorage for 39 years. She is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage's Business Administration program, a 2005 inductee into the Athena Society, and a recipient of the Chamber of Commerce's Top Forty Under 40 award. Ms. Reitmeier is also an avid supporter of the University of Alaska and the United Way of Alaska. She has worked at Alyeska for six years and prior to that, worked as Director of Alaska Heritage Tours for CIRI Alaska Tourism. Ms. Reitmeier is married and has two children.
 

Clark RushClark Rush
Senior Vice President, Branch Manager, Morgan Stanley 

Mr. Rush was born and raised in Anchorage.  He supports the United Way, the Salvation Army, and the Adopt-A-Family program.  Mr. Rush is married and has four children. Mr. Rush and his children were all born at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

 


 


Maria Wallington, MDMaria J. Wallington, MD

Medical Ethicist for Providence Health & Services Alaska 

Dr. Wallington has been a resident of Alaska for 43 years. She was certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology and worked as a pediatric cardiologist for 20 years with her offices at Providence Medical Center. She was drawn to a new career in medical ethics and has worked for the Providence Alaska Region as their Medical Ethicist since 2000. Ethics has led to an interest in end-of-life care. Dr. Wallington currently serves as the Chair of Hospice of Anchorage.
 


Al ParrishAl Parrish                                                                                          
Chief Executive/Vice President, Providence Health & Services Alaska

Mr. Parrish serves on the Wells Fargo Advisory Board, the UAA Chancellor Advisory Board and the ISER Advisory Board.  He served on the Providence Hospital governing board from 1979 to 1991.  He also served on the Providence System Board of Directors in Seattle from 1991 to 2002.  Mr. Parrish has lived in Alaska for 44 years.  He is married with 3 children and 3 grandchildren.  His grandson was born at Providence and spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  Mr. Parrish credits the excellent care he received in the NICU with saving his grandson’s life.
 
 

Susan RuddySusan Ruddy
President, Providence Alaska Foundation

Ms. Ruddy has been a resident of Alaska since 1964.  She served two terms on the Smithsonian Institution National Board, several terms on the Commonwealth North Board, and was on the Providence Alaska Foundation board from 1997 through 2001 and the Providence Region Board from 2002 to 2004 when she stepped down to became President of the Foundation.  She currently serves on The Nature Conservancy of Alaska Board, UAA Chancellors Advisory Board, ConocoPhillips Philanthropy Board, and Alyeska President’s Community Panel.  Susan’s commitment to the creation of a cancer center in Alaska came from her own experience with breast cancer in the mid-1980s, and her dedication to Providence resulted from the compassionate care she received as a patient at that time.  Susan has two children: son Sean lives in Anchorage with his wife Pauline, and daughter Lydia currently resides in Indonesia.
