A Perfect Storm in Health Care Our Alaskan population is aging. By 2025, the number of Alaskans 65 and older is expected to double. A large aging population with chronic, progressive illnesses coupled with skyrocketing costs could overburden the health care system, potentially bankrupting hospitals and seriously compromising our ability to provide care for the community. Health care providers in Alaska and across the country must learn to treat the chronically ill efficiently as well as compassionately in order to survive. As the flagship health center for Alaska, Providence has the responsibility to lead in addressing this serious and escalating health care challenge. Not only have palliative care programs been proven to result in more satisfied patients and families, they also result in: • More efficient and successful discharges • Fewer emergency room visits • Fewer hospitalizations • More appropriate use of high-tech staff and equipment We all lose if our health system becomes so strained that it cannot meet the needs of our communities. Giving to the Providence Palliative Care program is an investment in the future of health care for us all. Private donors bring a variety of resources to Providence. As a donor, you may designate your gifts to projects of interest to you—or to the priorities of the hospital. The most common type of gift is cash, including checks and credit card gifts. However, a donor may be able to give more or realize tax benefits by using another approach, including: • Mutual fund shares, bonds & publicly traded stocks • Real estate • Gifts of tangible personal property related to the mission of the hospital • Income from retirement accounts • Existing life insurance policies • Stock in a closely held corporation • Bank and brokerage accounts • Your unique skills, talents and resources • Giving through the workplace | Providence Alaska Medical Center is known for its high standard of excellence in compassionate care. | A gift to Providence ensures the best medical care is available for you, your loved ones, friends and neighbors right here in Alaska. The staff at Providence are available to discuss your gift. We believe charitable giving should accommodate personal philanthropic interests and goals and individual financial priorities of the donor. |
