2003 - Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center Awarded Accreditation From JOINT COMMISSION

Providence Health System in Alaska announces that Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) has achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.  PKIMC’s accreditation was renewed after an intensive evaluation where it demonstrated compliance with the Joint Commission’s nationally recognized health care standards. This is the second accreditation in a row that PKIMC has received.  According to Mr.. Jerome Selby, PKIMC’s Administrator: “The Medical Center’s extremely high integrated score of 96.7 reflects our staff’s and organization’s commitment to quality and safety.  I am very proud of each of our dedicated and hard working people.”

Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation’s health care.  PKIMC voluntarily undergoes a survey by a full team of Joint Commission experts every three years.   The Joint Commission works to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.  Joint Commission standards of quality are developed in collaboration with health professionals and others. The Joint Commission stimulates health care organizations to meet these state-of-the-art standards through accreditation and the teaching of quality improvement concepts.

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center underwent the intensive inspection during the last week in October. The hospital’s final integrated score of 96.7 reflected the superior performance by all departments. But, of particular note, the Long Term Care Center received a rare perfect score of 100, while the Home Health Care Department received a remarkable score of 98. According to Mr.. Selby:  “PKIMC’s overall integrated score of 96.7 is the highest score received by any facility in the Providence Health System in Alaska.” Mr.. Selby also commented:  “All of Kodiak can take comfort and have great pride in the quality of medical care that they have available to them here.”

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center attempts to foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement. We would love to hear how we did during you or your family member's stay with us.   Feel free to call or write directly to us.
