Three nurses are state’s only certified neuroscience registered nurses
Anchorage, AK - Providence Alaska Medical Center nurses Christie Artuso, Heidi Wedekind and Margo Yanagawa have earned Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse credentials (CNRN) through the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing.
Artuso is the director of neuroscience services at PAMC. Wedekind is the clinical manager of the inpatient neurology unit and Yanagawa is a staff RN on that unit. The three are the only CNRNs in the state of Alaska.
“Having certified nurses in this specialty area attests to our commitment to providing the state’s best neuroscience care at Providence Alaska Medical Center,” said PAMC administrator Bruce Lamoureux. “Patients should know that when they come to PAMC, they will have the most highly skilled professionals taking care of them, along with the high-quality compassionate care that is a hallmark of Providence.”
Neuroscience nursing practice includes clinical practice, consultation, research, administration or education in the neurosciences field, which addresses nervous system functions. Certification is an important credential that attests to the achievement of specialty knowledge beyond basic nursing preparation. It is evidence of clinical expertise and leadership in neuroscience nursing practice. CNRN status is granted for five years and is renewed through validation of continuing education or re-examination.
