Providence Chaplains and staff provide services for patients' spiritual, emotional and social needs including the use of prayer, counseling, crisis ministry, sacramental ministry and worship experiences. Chaplains also respond to needs for referrals, education/support groups and consultations.  Rev. Frank R. Mächt, M. Div., M.A. Rev. Frank R. Mächt is the Manager of Spiritual Care and CPE at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. He is an ACPE Supervisor and an ordained clergy endorsed for Specialized Pastoral Care by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He grew up and received part of his theological education in Germany before coming to America, where he completed his degrees in Berkeley, CA. His CPE journey took him to Stanford in California, Emory in Atlanta, GA, and Presbyterian hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He also served a predominantly Alaska Native congregation in Nome before joining the ministry of the Sisters of Providence. Frank enjoys playing soccer and hiking in Alaska's great outdoors. Father Aloysius Ezenwata, MSP Fr. Ezenwata is responsible for the pastoral and sacramental ministry to the Roman Catholic population in the hospital. He is an ordained Roman Catholic priest with the Missionaries of St. Paul of Nigeria and a certified chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Father Al coordinates the ministry of our dedicated Eucharistic volunteers. He is also an ACPE Supervisor-in-Training (SIT) and takes part in the supervision of our CPE students.
Rev. Susan Halvor , M.Div. , BCCRev. Halvor is an ordained clergy endorsed for Specialized Pastoral Care by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She is board certified as a chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. She is responsible for the spiritual care at Children's Hospital at Providence including ministry to patients, families and staff within Pediatrics, Pediatric & Newborn Intensive Care, Prenatal Care, Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby units. Father Christopher Stanton, MDiv., BCC Father Christopher is an ordained priest with the Orthodox Church in America. His clinical assignments cover our In-patient Mental Health Unit - both the Adult and Adolescent treatment units, our Psychiatric Emergency Room, Breakthrough Substance Abuse Recovery Program and Girls' Adolescent Residential Treatment Program. Fr. Christopher received his B.A. from California State University, Chico, in Religious Studies; MDiv from St. Tikhon Orthodox Theological Seminary. He is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. As a Russian Orthodox priest he has served both parish ministries and clinical assignments for the past ten years. Fran Victor, MCM, BCCFran Victor is consecrated as a diaconal minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She is board certified by the Association for Professional Chaplains. As a chaplain for Providence Home and Health Services, she is responsible for spiritual care for the patients, families and staff at Providence Home Health Care. Rev. Jean Bruscia, MDiv.Rev. Bruscia is the Oncology and Palliative Care chaplain for PAMC and the new Providence Cancer Center. She is commissioned as a Deacon and endorsed for Extension Ministry as a chaplain by the United Methodist Church of the Rocky Mountain Conference to the Alaska United Methodist Conference. Her seminary training is from Iliff School of Theology in Denver with emphasis in pastoral, palliative and end of life care complimenting her oncology experience with the American Cancer Society. Her ministry is to support cancer patients and families as they navigate the emotional and spiritual difficulties of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Rev. Richard Rist, M.Div.Rev. Rist was ordained in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in 1976. He was a parish pastor for 30 years before entering hospital chaplaincy and has been in Alaska for nine years. Richard says, "My most meaningful parish pastoral experience was in a multi-cultural congregation in Seattle, WA. I highly value the diversity of cultural traditions and faith traditions I experience as a hospital chaplain." He has been endorsed for Specialized Pastoral Care by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. His primary areas of service are Adult Critical Care and the Emergency Department. He also serves as a chaplain at St. Elias Specialty Hospital. Richard and his wife have been married for 35 years and have two children and two grandchildren. Liu-Hsiu Kuo, D.M.A., M.A.Dr. Liu-Hsiu Kuo is originally from Taiwan. She has lived and studied in Germany and completed a Doctoral degree in Music in the U.S. She plays many instruments and her music has allowed her to perform all over the world, most memorably for Mikhail Gorbachev and the Queen of Jordan. Dr. Kuo also played at the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and the 50th anniversary of the founding of Israel, as well as a Middle East peace concert. She has played to accompany poetry, dance and films. Her experience includes touring and producing CD collections for commercial release. Most recently, Dr. Kuo was a visiting professor in China during the 2007 school year. While there she started the first music therapy concerts in southwest China to assist those with trauma from the 2008 earthquake there. Karen Quirk, Administrative Assistant
Ms. Quirk is the administrative assistant for Spiritual Care and CPE. She has a bachelor's degree in Comparative Culture from Sophia University with a concentration in Philosophy & Religion. Karen worked in the customer service industry in Tokyo and as executive assistant for a Japanese automotive supplier in her home state of Ohio prior to coming to Alaska and joining Providence. She is an Oblate of St. Meinrad Archabbey and a member of the International Thomas Merton Society. |
