Karen Gilley, RN
Music Thanatologist |
Music Thanatology can offer support and comfort when a patient receives a terminal diagnosis, a patient is declining and is no longer receiving curative care, when patients and caregivers find themselves in need of support in decision making, during life support removal or organ donation, and to help manage issues of pain control, grief or anxiety.
Karen Gilley is an RN, and the Music Thanatologist in the Spiritual Care Department at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
The Spiritual Care Department offers Music Thanatology, which brings live prescriptive harp music to the bedside, addressing the individual patient’s and family’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Music Thanatology can be requested by a patient, the patient's family, or any healthcare team member. A music vigil doesn't require a doctor's order, nor is there ever a charge for this service to the patient or patient's family.
