Al ParrishAl Parrish
Chief Executive

Al Parrish is Chief Executive for Providence Health & Services Alaska. Providence is the state's largest health care provider and has been providing health care to Alaskans for more than 100 years. The health system includes the state's largest hospital, 364-bed Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage; acute- and long-term care facilities in Seward, Kodiak and Valdez; three long-term care facilities in Anchorage; and family practice and behavioral health clinics in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. With approximately 4,000 employees, Providence Health & Services Alaska is also the state's largest private employer. Providence Health & Services is a not-for-profit health care organization extending across a four-state area, including Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and California.

Prior to joining Providence, Al was the Vice President of External Relations for Holland America Line - Westours, Inc. Al was also president of Westmark Hotels, also a subsidiary of Holland America Line-Westours, Inc., which is owned by Carnival Cruise Lines Inc. He was appointed to this position in 1987 when Sheffield Enterprises and Westours hotels merged. He served prior to that as president of Sheffield Enterprises. Prior to joining Sheffield as president in 1975, he held positions as general manager and vice president with Hickel Hotels. Al began his career in the hotel business with Vance Hotels as a busboy in 1962. Originally from Georgia, Al graduated from high school in Seattle.

Currently, he is a board member for Wells Fargo Bank N.A, the Alaska Native Heritage Center and the UAA Chancellor's Advisory Board. He also serves as president of the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association.

Past affiliations include: president and board member of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce; Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce; the Alaska Visitors Association; the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau; past chair and member of the Anchorage Providence Hospital Advisory Board. He has served on the boards of the Covenant House, the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce; the Anchorage Board of Humana Corporation; the Anchorage Downtown Development Corporation; the Advisory Board of the Center for Entrepreneurship for Alaska Pacific University; and the Alaska Performing Arts Center.

He and his wife Ann, have three grown children.

 

Monica AndersonMonica Anderson
Regional Director of Mission

Monica Anderson, Regional Director of Mission for Providence Health & Services Alaska, is responsible for the organization's spiritual care, ethics, community services and community benefits. In her role she promotes our Mission and Core Values -- their understanding, meaning and operationalization -- in each of the Providence facilities in Alaska.

Anderson began serving at Providence in 1992. Prior to her current position she worked as Director of Mission/Spiritual Care for Providence Alaska Medical Center, and as Director of Spiritual Care for Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Ore. She also held a position as chaplain for Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Ore.

The child of a military family, Anderson grew up in a variety of Navy bases on the East and West coasts. She holds a BA in Theology from Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., and an MA in counseling through West Virginia Graduate Studies. She is a board-certified professional chaplain with more than 2000 hours of clinical pastoral education.

 

Susan Humphrey-BarnettSusan Humphrey-Barnett
Area Operations Administrator

Susan Humphrey-Barnett is the Area Operations Administrator for the Providence Health & Services Alaska. In that capacity she oversees a wide range of Providence facilities and programs across the state. These include: Kodiak Medical Center, Long-Term Care, Home Health and Counseling Center; Seward Medical Center, Long-Term Care and Home Health; Valdez Medical Center, Long-Term Care and Counseling Center; Matanuska Healthcare Associates Family Practice Clinic; Providence Extended Care Center; Horizon House; PAMC Home Health; PAMC Mental Health Unit; PAMC Psych ER; PAMC Breakthrough; Providence Alaska Residential Treatment Program; Providence Behavioral Medical Group; Providence Imaging Center; and the Crisis Recovery Center.

Humphrey-Barnett began service at Providence in 1991. She joined Providence from the State of Alaska, where she served as Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Corrections. Before being named to her current position she served PAMC as Director Of Mental Health Services; Assistant Administrator for Mental Health Services; and Assistant Administrator for Managed Health and Physician Integration.

 

Anthony DorschAnthony Dorsch
Chief Financial Officer

Anthony has served as assistant CFO since June 2007 with responsibility for region finance. Prior to his current position, Anthony worked in the Providence Health & Services System Office in positions of increasing responsibility, including as system director of financial planning and system manager of strategic finance.

Anthony has an MBA and MHA from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University. He and his wife, Heather Aften, live in Anchorage with their two children, Hance and Lily.

 

Joel GilbertsonJoel Gilbertson
Regional Director of Strategic Development and Administration

Since joining Providence in 2005, Joel has led the organization's respective efforts around Communications & Marketing, Real Estate & Development, Health Management Services, Government Affairs, and Strategic Planning.

Raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Joel holds a JD from George Washington University Law School and a Master of Public Health degree from George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. He also holds a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Prior to joining Providence, Joel served as commissioner of the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. In that role he led Alaska's largest state agency, overseeing a collection of functions including public health, Medicaid, child protection services, senior services, behavioral health and juvenile justice. He also co-chaired the Denali Commission, a joint federal and state effort to develop Alaska's rural infrastructure and improve access to affordable health care services.

He currently serves as chair of the Alaska Health Care Roundtable. He sits on the boards of the State Chamber of Commerce, the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Southcentral Alaska and the Waterfall Foundation.

Joel lives in Anchorage with his wife, Sarah, and daughter, Norah.

 

Scott JungwirthScott Jungwirth
Chief Human Resources Officer

Scott Jungwirth has been with Providence Health & Services Alaska since 1995. Prior to his appointment as the chief human resources officer in 2007, he served in a variety of roles within the Human Resources Department, including director of human resources for Providence Alaska Medical Center and regional manager for employee and labor relations.

As the chief human resources officer for the Alaska Region, Scott is responsible for the strategic direction of the human resources department, employee health and education functions for all Providence facilities in Alaska, sourcing and recruitment, labor relations, and compensation and benefits for Alaska Region employees.

Scott holds a master’s degree in business and organizational management from the University of La Verne and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and public communications from the University of Alaska.

 

Bruce LamoureuxBruce Lamoureux
Administrator

Bruce Lamoureux is Providence Alaska Medical Center's senior executive. He oversees medical center services at the 364-bed hospital.

Originally from Quebec, Canada, Lamoureux relocated to Los Angeles as a teenager. He joined Providence in 2006 after serving as president and chief executive officer at a tertiary hospital in Los Angeles since 1997. He provides PAMC with more than thirty years experience in hospital operating activities.

Lamoureux holds a BA in management from the University of Redlands, in Redlands, California, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.

 

Roy DavisRoy Davis
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Roy Davis is Providence Alaska Medical Center's chief medical officer, Roy oversees all medical operations at the hospital.

Born in Walsall, England, Davis received his MD and a Ph.D. in clinical chemistry from the Virginia School of Medicine. He also holds an MS in clinical pathology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and an MHA from the University of Colorado.

 

 

Shara SutherlinShara Sutherlin
Chief Nurse Executive

Shara Sutherlin has been with Providence for 30 years. Since 2003 she has served as Chief Nurse Executive for Providence Alaska Medical Center. In that role she oversees all nursing operations, leads the development of a magnet culture and promotes education, clinical specialty certifications and evidence-based nursing practices. Her clinical experiences and expertise includes medical-surgical-gynecological, float pool, coronary-critical care and development of the Heart & CVS Center.

Sutherlin began her career in 1976 as a charge nurse at Jefferson Davis County Hospital in Houston, Texas. She joined Providence later that same year. Since then her roles have included night-shift nurse, charge-preceptor nurse and assistant unit manager. Before being named chief nurse executive she was the director of Cardiovascular Services, assistant administrator, and assistant chief nurse executive.

Shara holds a BSN from the University of St. Thomas' School of Nursing, in Houston, Texas; and an MBA from Alaska Pacific University.
