Providence was proud to welcome Valdez into its family on January 1, 2005. The City of Valdez owns the medical facility and Providence now manages it on the city's behalf.
In reflecting on their frst year as a Providence-managed facility, administrator Kanute Rarey said the relationship between Providence and the City of Valdez continues to grow and strengthen.
“We have a great relationship with our community and I cannot say enough about the commitment of this city’s leadership and its citizens in ensuring we are able to provide high-quality health care in Valdez.”
This commitment to high-quality health care is also shared by our Providence staff who volunteer in the community to help those in need. In 2005, employees of the Counseling Center volunteered almost 300 hours in different works in the community, and at the medical center, staff gave more than 640 hours of volunteer time to the community.
The medical center, which serves the Prince William Sound, the Copper Basin and the communities of Wrangell/St. Elias, has heavily supported the community’s Health and Safety Fair for more than 10 years and provided internship and job shadowing opportunities to the area’s youth to encourage consideration of a job in health care.
They were also only the second community in the state to participate in a mass inoculation drill that tested the city’s ability to deliver flu immunizations to the entire community in a 12-hour period.
“We have a dedicated team of people here who provide excellent services to our patients and the community,” said Rarey. “The Providence name and the brand strength behind that name has made a difference in our community and our awesome staff is not only living up to that reputation, they are improving it every day.”
