Providence Safety and Security

Smoking
Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout Providence Alaska Medical Center. Visitors may smoke only in designated smoking areas that are located adjacent to the East Parking Structures, third floor of the East Parking Structure, and outside the Emergency Department. Cigarettes are not sold at the medical center.

Fire/Safety Drills
For your protection, the medical center conducts fire and disaster drills regularly. If a drill occurs while you are here, please remain in your room and do not become alarmed. The medical center is a fire-resistant building, and the staff is trained in fire protection and emergency response.

Security
For your safety and welfare, access into the medical center is restricted from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. After hours, please use the Emergency Department entrance. If your family or friends would like an escort to a parked vehicle, have your nurse contact security for you.

Medications
All medications you take while in the medical center are prescribed by your doctor. A pharmacist reviews your medications for drug-food interactions and allergies to assure the appropriate medications are dispensed. If you bring medications from home, please alert your nurse and doctor to discuss whether to continue taking them while in the hospital.

Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs are available in all patient care areas. Getting in and out of them without assistance may be hazardous. Please ask for help from a member of the medical center staff.

Valuables
Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the medical center. There are things best left at home to ensure you do not lose any valuables during your stay. Providence is not responsible for personal valuable. Please do not bring these items with you to the hospital: jewelry (including rings and watches), PDA's, laptop computers, CD/DVD players, CD's and DVD's, wallets, credit cards, and money.

Lost Items
If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately, and you will make every effort to help you find it. Unclaimed articles are turned into Lost and Found. To inquire about lost articles, please contact security at ext. 4567.
