With angioplasty a catheter that has a balloon on the tip is inserted through your groin artery and up to the blockage. This balloon is inflated and deflated in the narrowed part of your artery to compress the plaque against the artery wall.
You may feel some angina when the balloon is inflated. Tell your doctor right away if you do. The balloon catheter and guiding wires are removed and blood flow to the heart muscle is restored.
