Diabetes Education Program

 

The Providence Diabetes and Nutrition Center offers complete diabetes education and targeted nutrition counseling to a wide variety of patients.

Our staff of Diabetes Nurse Educators and Registered Dietitians has developed comprehensive diabetes education classes and individual sessions to help patients gain the everyday skills needed to manage diabetes successfully.

Type 1, Type 2, gestational, and newly diagnosed diabetics will find the assistance they need to create their own diabetes management plan.

The Providence Diabetes and Nutrition Center is under the direction of a physician specializing in diabetes care.  We will provide a detailed summary of each visit that will be sent to your personal healthcare provider.

We can help with:

  • Blood glucose self-monitoring and evaluation
  • Recognizing and treating low blood sugar
  • Meal planning
  • Weight management
  • Foot and eye care recommendations
  • Insulin pump therapy
  • Diabetes management during pregnancy

Medical Nutrition Therapy
Registered Dietitians at the Diabetes and Nutrition Center provide nutrition counseling and assessments and can tailor a program for any patient utilizing guidelines from the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association, and the American Diabetes Association.

Diabetes Education Class
Our Diabetes Education Class is for the newly diagnosed diabetic who needs a review of basic management.  Few diseases call for as much self-care as diabetes.  And, few diseases have so much comprehensive information patients must learn to successfully manage it.  Our Diabetes Education Class provides information that is easily adaptable to your lifestyle.

The four-session class includes information on nutrition, medications, home glucose monitoring, exercise, and avoiding long and short-term complications. Our Diabetes Education classes are taught by Certified Diabetes Nurse Educators and Dietitians.
