What Is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is the abnormal accumulation of protein rich fluid in the interstitium that causes chronic inflammation and reactive fibrosis of the effected tissues. Lymphedema can be the result of many causes including the following:
Congenital Malformation
Life Saving Cancer Intervention
Tumors

Trauma

Infections

Surgery

Obesity
Chronic venous insufficiency
 
The most effective treatment of lymphedema is Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) that includes:
Manual Lymph Draining
Skin Care
Compression Bandaging
Exercise
Compression Garment
Measuring/Fitting of Compression Garment
Instruction in Self-Management
Instruction in Care/Wear of Garments
 

Other Disorders CDT Can Treat:

Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
Traumatic/Post Surgical Edema
