Are you assisting a loved one with exploring long term care solutions or have a loved one already in long term care looking for a higher quality of life environment?  Your look may be over!  On September 19th, Alaska’s newest long term care facility will be opening in Seward, Alaska.

Seward Mountain Haven is no ordinary nursing home; it’s called a Green House Project.  The grounds of the facility have four homes that house ten elders each.  Elders have their own spacious bedroom and private bathroom. The Great Room of each house has an open-air kitchen, family style dining room and a hearth where elders and guests can gather to visit.  Each house also has a secure patio with breathtaking views of Seward’s mountains and bay for those who desire increased time outside.

The philosophy of a Green House Project isn’t just about architecture.  In this home-like environment, caregivers can offer a higher level of nurturing care. Elders have the opportunity to be more involved in daily activities including cooking, planning menus, and picking furnishings and décor for their home.  Family and friends of the elders are welcome and encouraged to visit any time to keep those ties strong.

Although the houses look and function like homes rather than traditional institutional facilities, the quality and levels of medical care remain the same.  Seward Mountain Haven is owned by the City of Seward and managed by Providence, a national leader in healthcare.  The environment of Seward Mountain Haven combined with continued, high quality, long term medical care gives elders a higher quality of life and may improve overall health.

Seward's new facility will accommodate 40 residents in four homes. [Find out what's different about Green House homes]
