Speech Therapists at the Children's Hopsital at Providence are trained to offer a number of unique services. For example, to ensure effective feeding and swallowing, speech therapists work to improve oral motor skills and swallowing safety through feeding and swallowing techniques or recommend changes in posture and positions.
Our therapists evaluate swallow efficiency with various consistencies of food and liquid. Feeding equipment, techniques and food choices may be recommended to improve swallowing and reduce the risk of food going into the airway.
Our Pediatric Speech Therapists provide evaluation and treatment of:
- Expressive and receptive language disorders;
- Communication disorders such as stuttering, voice problems and speech delay;
- Articulation and phonological disorders;
- Cognitive skills, such as problem solving and reasoning;
- Social skills;
- Feeding, swallowing and oral motor skills;
- Augmentative communication;
- Behavior management
These services are provided for patients currently admitted to the Children's hospital by physician request and by appointment for outpatient services by calling 261-3116.
