Physical therapists at the Children's Hospital at Providence are trained to offer a number of unique services. For example, the team will work with the patient, the family, and the vendors to recommend the proper fit and function for manual or power wheelchairs.
If adaptive equipment is recommended, the therapist is trained to recommend alternative seating or positioning systems, assistive devices, and safety instruction to improve your child's functional abilities and independence.
Our Pediatric Physical Therapists provide:
- Evaluation and treatment of developmental motor skills
- Evaluation and treatment of orthopedic conditions
- Evaluation and treatment of neurological conditions
- Orthotic consultation and fabrication
- Wheelchair consultation
- Therapeutic equipment consultation
- Consultation services for home programs
For conditions requiring splints or orthotic fittings and casting, our therapist evaluates, fabricates, and modifies upper and lower body splints to optimize your child's development. The team can also handle design and casting for custom orthotics which are then produced by local or out-of-state orthotists. Follow-up assessment of fit and function are handled locally.
These services are provided for patients currently admitted to the Children's hospital by physician request and by appointment for outpatient services by calling 261-3116.
