PGY-1 Program Requirements

Successful applicants to the Providence Health and Services PGY-1 Residency Program will:

  • Currently be in or have graduated from an accredited pharmacy program at the time of application. Residents must have graduated prior to the start of the residency program in July.
  • Become licensed as pharmacists in the state of Oregon at the earliest opportunity after meeting the state licensing requirements. Residents not meeting the licensing requirements for pharmacists at the start of the residency must be licensed as pharmacy interns in the state of Oregon. It is expected that all residents will be licensed as pharmacists by the fourth month of the residency program. (For more information on Oregon pharmacist licensing requirements visit the Board of Pharmacy web site.)

By the end of the program, PGY-1 Residents are required to achieve the goals and objectives of the residency program as supplied by the ASHP Residency Learning System.  This requires the resident to spend 12 months (2000 hours) in the program. In addition, the resident must complete a major project during the residency year.
