Providence has a 150-year tradition of compassionate care for all our patients – regardless of their ability to pay or their circumstances in life. Every day our hospitals and our business offices receive letters of thanks from grateful patients.
Below are excerpts from just a few of the many letters we receive from Providence patients, expressing thanks for the care and compassion they received:
"Thank you all for the wonderful care and support you gave my family and me during my stay in the ICU. Each one of you went above and beyond what was necessary to give me the best care possible and provide a loving support structure for my family. I will be forever grateful for your compassionate and expert care. I am currently at home with my family and you will be happy to know that I will make a full recovery - thanks to each one of you. This experience has dramatically changed my life and you will always be in my heart. A sincere thank you!"

"One day in September, while I was at work, my son had to be brought to the ER via ambulance because of a breathing problem. We were surprised at how quickly a moderately ill toddler went to being a very sick child. The team in the (pediatrics) pod was just awesome! My little guy came in lethargic, wheezing, moaning and clinging to my husband. He left bouncing on the bed with stickers, a sucker and smile on his face. We recognize that modern medicine easily resolved his physical issue. But, what really struck us – and what we so much appreciate – was how well the whole team worked together on his behalf. The (doctors), nurses, nursing students, X-ray tech, etc. all were just terrific and worked hard to keep him comfortable and to allay our fears. "

"Having had your agency was absolutely the most wonderful experience for me. Your staff are all the best. They made everything easy and comfortable. My nurses... were kind and business-like, along with funny and friendly. I thank you all for your help and compassion. "

"From the time I arrived at the emergency room, I was given compassionate, professional care that made the difference between life and death. The doctors, nurses and other staff took such good care of me, and were very accommodating to my daughter... who stayed with me throughout my time in the hospital. I was lucky to have access to such caring doctors, great technology and a wonderful facility. Providence blessed our family in another way as well. Since we can't afford health insurance, we didn't know how we could ever pay our $23,000 hospital bill. Right before Christmas, we learned that the hospital had forgiven the bill. Our Christmas celebration included many prayers of thanksgiving for all Providence has done – and will do – for my family and our whole community."

"I wanted to take the time to send a special thank you to the ER staff at Providence Milwaukie for saving my daughter's life when she came via ambulance with acute anaphylactic reaction to a Brazil nut. Dr. Swartz was very kind and caring as well as the two nurses she was assigned. The front office check-in staff was equally as kind, polite and caring. It was a very scary time and yet with their calm, caring way, it calmed me and her fiancé. I can't thank you all enough."

"The Tualatin School House Pantry, a member of the Oregon Food Bank, shares in their mission to eliminate hunger and its root causes because nobody should go hungry. Thanks to the generous support and compassion of Providence Health & Services, which also is dedicated to helping those less fortunate, we are able to start our Capital Campaign to build a permanent home for our Food Pantry. We are excited to welcome Providence to the Tualatin Community and look forward to a long relationship of serving together."
