Stories of hope

Providence Cancer Center "I have so much personal drive to do the right thing, because I’ve been through it."

Jeannie Williams

“You can ask me my opinion, and I will tell you,” says Jeannie Williams, a Providence buyer who works with vendors. She’s on the team that furnished the center of hope, having purchased everything from light switches to surgical equipment. Jeannie works from firsthand experience: Her husband, Del, was a cancer patient at Providence. So Jeannie has made it her personal mission to anticipate the needs of patients and their families.

In her first weeks on the job, a vendor showed her an uncomfortable chair for a patient room that stopped her in her tracks. “I said, ‘Wait a minute. Whoa - time out. I can tell you from experience, that thing is not okay. I’ve slept on it, and it doesn’t work.’” Instead, the team chose an armchair that not only is comfortable, but also folds out into a bed.
