About Heather M. Brennan
I grew up in Overland Park, just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. I was inspired to become a physician because of my grandfather, he was a family doctor in Bray, Ireland. I always loved that he could treat people of all ages. I initially went to college for special education, but found myself researching diseases and was drawn to medicine. I went to medical school in St. Louis, Missouri, and then moved to Spokane, Washington for residency. When I met my husband, he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. We both loved Spokane, so after he retired from the Air Force, we made this our home. We have three very active sons. I am on the clinical faculty at the University of Washington and am involved in teaching medical students and residents.
I joined Kaiser Permanente because I am excited to work with an excellent team. It is important to me to work for a nonprofit organization that has a mission to treat patients with the highest quality. I am also a firm believer in preventive health care. My philosophy of care is to listen to patients’ beliefs and concerns about their health and try to incorporate that into their health care plan. I love knowing about my patients and their families, and developing lasting relationships with them. This helps me take better care of them. I am particularly interested in maternity care and women’s health care. I love being involved with families during the most important moments of their lives, and feeling like I’ve helped make a difference in improving their health.
I am the den mother for my sons’ Cub Scouts troop. Both my husband’s family and my mother’s family are originally from Ireland, and we love to go visit our extended family there when we can. I find that the best way for me to stay healthy is to do activities with my family. We like to ski, bike on trails, and hike. I also enjoy reading and spending time in the garden. We grow a vegetable garden every summer.
