Dr. Shannon has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Archives of Surgery, Neuropeptides and elsewhere. He has conducted original research and writing on topics including gherlin and hunger, obesity, hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia in nesidioblastosis, opioid effects on the gastrointestinal system, dyslipidemia in the elderly, Gherlin and gastric bypass surgery, and interactions of oxytocin and vasopressin, among others.
He has also authored book chapters, including one in Johns Hopkins Textbook of Lipidology, entitled "Dyslipidemia in the Elderly" and a chapter regarding hormonal mechanisms in bariatric surgery, published in Clinical and Physiological Aspects of Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Shannon has also given over 25 national and regional presentations on topics in endocrinology, including regarding thyroid disease, non-insulin diabetes management, continuous glucose monitoring, lipid trials, LDL levels, lipids in the elderly and many more.
