Christopher B. Mikulic, PsyD

Dr. Mikulic decided to become a psychologist after witnessing the challenges that many Portlanders face with mental health and substance use. “I wanted to provide assistance to local, underserved people who haven’t had care access or beneficial experiences in the past,” he says. Integrated care includes behavioral health as part of the primary care team, which is his passion. “I think it’s the most effective care,” he says, “because it allows us to address the patient as a whole person, rather than providing siloed care.”

Working alongside patients, Dr. Mikulic helps to resolve issues and to facilitate behavioral, cognitive and emotional changes. “I follow a collaborative, patient-empowering and strengths-based approach to care, with the patient at the center of the team,” he says. “I want to hear not only what brings you to see me, but also how you cope with and manage challenges, and what qualities and experiences brought you to where you are now.”

Dr. Mikulic utilizes an integrated approach to treatment with solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. He sees people of all ages (from 5 years old and up), identities, genders, orientations and backgrounds, with a special focus on care for LGBTQIA+ people. He completed his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at Pacific University, his internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, and his residency and fellowship with Providence Health & Services.

In his free time, Dr. Mikulic enjoys playing sports (basketball, soccer, disc golf), watching Portland-based sports teams, being with his family (both humans and pets), playing video games, hiking, traveling, and spending time at the beach.
