When people think about cardiovascular disease, they usually think of a heart attack. In reality, the disease comes in many forms from leg pain and fatigue, to heart attack and stroke. Studies show that up to 75% of patients with peripheral disease of the arms and legs also have coronary heart disease. People who have both diseases are five times more likely to die from a cardiac event.
The Heart and Vascular Institute at Providence Everett is one of the largest, most advanced cardiovascular programs in Washington. For seven years in a row our cardiovascular services have been recognized with quality national awards. The Heart and Vascular Institute serves patients from throughout Northwestern Washington. Our philosophy is to create partnerships between primary care physicians, heart and vascular specialists, hospital staff and most importantly, with our patients. Because we are so conveniently located, many of our patients find that family and friends can easily visit them throughout their hospital stay.
We have several innovations and advances in our care that make us unique. Our Cardiac Surgery Single Stay Unit is the first of its kind in Washington. This new approach encompasses care around a patient and their families for their entire hospital stay. The unit allows open heart and major vascular surgery patients to recover after surgery in one comprehensive care room, rather than the traditional approach of moving them from a critical care bed to a step down unit. We believe patients receive better care and are more comfortable because the health care team remains consistent and family members are able to take an active role in their loved one’s recovery.
We have also added state-of-the-art interventional radiology and cardiology suites that significantly increase the safety and efficiency of catheter based procedures.
Our new interventional recovery unit provides privacy and technology equivalent to a traditional hospital room for patients who will be staying for a same-day discharge procedures only.
Because, in the end, we want what you want – the best care available.
