Category I & II Policies and Procedures

 

1. Applications for Category I accreditation will be submitted to the Medical Education Office (MEO), reviewed for completeness, and submitted to the Medical Education Committee (MEC) for approval if they meet MEC guidelines.

2. Initial speaker contact will be made by the course chairperson with follow up by the medical education coordinator. A formal letter will be sent to all speakers along with speaker disclosure, lecture contracts, etc. All speakers will be expected to provide handouts for their lectures.

3. The MEO will apply for all continuing Education (CE) credits that are appropriate (AAFP, etc).

4. Brochures, mailing lists, etc. will be maintained by the MEO.

5. A post conference report will be made to the MEC including a course evaluation sheet, post-test results when appropriate, and a financial report.

Major Programs
(more than 2 hours; multi day)

1. The draft program agenda will be discussed at the MEC at least twice for review of speakers, topics, and course objectives.

2. The program will be finalized FOUR months prior to the program date.

3. Brochures will be mailed out THREE months prior to the program date.

Short Programs
(1-2 hours; Cat I & II)

The chair of the MEC will be delegated the authority to approve these programs for the MEC with a report of this action at the next scheduled meeting of the MEC.

Enduring Materials
(printed material, video tapes, audio tapes, CD-ROM, etc)

1. Alternative formats for Cat I CME will meet the standards and follow the guidelines set by the MEC in a separate policy.

2. All enduring materials will be presented at the MEC on a case by case basis before final approval.
