Providence Stroke Center is recognized by the American Stroke Association as participating in care processes and protocols consistent with national guidelines for best practice in stroke care. Our team of over 60 stroke experts, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neurointerventionalists, neuoradiologists, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, and therapist provides 24 hour a day services to over 1,000 primary and secondary strokes per year. Patients are quickly diagnosed using the most technically advanced methods, and whenever possible, blood flow restored to the brain to give the best chance for a complete recovery.

Stroke risk

Risk factors:
• smoking
• high blood pressure
• diabetes
• history of heart disease
• high cholesterol
• use of oral contraceptives (birth control pills)
Warning signs:
• severe headache
• confusion, disorientation or memory loss
• numbness, weakness or clumsiness of an arm, leg or side of the face
• abnormal or slurred speech
• loss of vision
• poor balance or lack of coordination
