Bike Safety

Many serious injuries can be avoided by proper use of a helmet. Below are some tips and instructions for how to use and fit bike helmets.

Bike crashes send more kids to the emergency room
than any other sport. In fact, kids ages 5 to 14 get hurt
more often than bikers of any other age.

tips for safe helmet use:

  • Helmets must be strapped under the chin to be effective in a fall or crash. If the child is able to take off the helmet without unhooking the chin strap, it is too loose.
  • Check helmet position and fit before each use.
  • Take the helmet off while playing on play equipment! The helmet can get stuck on playground equipment and cause serious injury.
