Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic

Providence Everett Medical Center led a collaborative effort to design, staff and equip a nonprofit clinic that will provide basic health care to those who don’t have insurance or can’t get in to see a doctor. The clinic is located at the College Plaza Shopping Center at 1001 N. Broadway in Everett.

A local solution to the access crisis
The drive to open the clinic, first proposed by Dr. Tony Roon, trauma director at Providence Everett, came out of a community desire to find a local solution that would address Snohomish County’s medical services crisis. Because of the extraordinarily low Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rates in the county, more doctors are leaving our area than coming here. And many of those who are staying are closing their doors to Medicaid and Medicare patients because they can’t afford to absorb more losses from government programs that don’t cover the cost of providing care. As a result, those who don’t have access to basic preventive care end up at Providence’s Emergency Department, which is one of the busiest in the state.

Who is staffing the clinic?
The clinic is staffed by nurse practitioners in association with the University of Washington (UW) School of Nursing. There is also a physician Medical Director. In addition, nursing and medical assistant students from UW and Everett Community College will use the clinic as a training site. This staffing model in conjunction with cooperative arrangements with our medical and social services communities allows the clinic to be self-supporting within the constraints of Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.

What's new?

  • The Healthcare Clinic recently received a $150,000 grant from the Evertrust Foundation to hire a part-time, family mental health nurse practitioner to care for children with mental health needs in the community.

  • In addition to free or reduced-cost medical care, the clinic also provides free dental service to established patients.  The dental service Northwest Medical Teams Dental Clinics  has seen 95 adult and pediatric patients since January 2005.  This service is staffed primarily by volunteer dentists and hygienists.

  • Beginning this year the clinic will be offering free sports physicals to children in the Everett School District.  The clinic is currently prepared to give 200 physicals to children that might not otherwise be able to pay for a physical and be eligible to participate in school sports.
