Becoming a Volunteer

Providence welcomes individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, expertise and abilities.  Volunteers are carefully screened and placed in a position based on their interests, skills and the availability of the desired assignment.

Requirements
Interested volunteers must be at least 15 years of age to volunteer in the hospital.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 100 hours of service. This is done by volunteering 3-4 hours per week for six months or every other week for one year.

1. Complete the Volunteer Application Packet
Please call us at 425-261-4580 to request a volunteer application in the mail.

If you are under age 18, your parents must sign in the areas noted in the application.

2.  Interview
Before you call to arrange an interview, please read and complete all of the paperwork in your packet. Interviews are conducted by one of our volunteer supervisors who will discuss your interests, availability and goals.

Interviews take approximately a half hour.  The interview will help determine an appropriate volunteer assignment.

If the paperwork is incomplete when you arrive for your interview, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment.

3.  Orientation
New volunteers are required to attend a two-hour volunteer orientation before training in their volunteer position.

4.  Tuberculosis and Immunization Screening
Providence Regional Medical Center Everett policy requires that all volunteers be tested for tuberculosis (TB). The TB test is a 2-step process that must be completed before you can begin volunteering. Volunteers also have one TB test annually.

As a volunteer, you need to bring your immunization record to Employee Health at the time of your visit. However, if you cannot provide these records, you can have your blood drawn to test for immunity or you can sign a declination.

TB and immunization testing are free for volunteers through Employee Health at the Pacific and Colby campuses. Days and times to have the test administered can be discussed during the interview process.

If you're under age 18, a signed parental consent form is required before TB or immunity testing can begin.

5. Position Training
Before you start working in a new volunteer position, you'll participate in training to familiarize yourself with the area and the duties in the department.

New volunteers are trained by other volunteers in the department or by the staff. This depends on how the department would like to have volunteers trained.
