Having its Master Chocolatier, Chef Julian Rose, named one of the top 10 chocolatiers in North America at this year's New York Chocolate Show is just the latest accolade to be heaped upon Portland-based Moonstruck Chocolate Co.
An Oregon success story
Since its founding in 1993, Moonstruck's artisan truffles, specialty items, chocolate bars and hot chocolate have earned it rave reviews from tastemakers including Oprah Winfrey, Rachael Ray, Consumer Reports and National Public Radio.
This Oregon success story depends largely upon the dedication and talent of Moonstruck employees, says Joanna Lawler, Moonstruck human resources director. "When we say handmade, we mean handmade," she says of their signature premium chocolate. More than three dozen artisans handcraft, hand-decorate and hand-package Moonstruck Chocolates for national distribution from their St. Johns headquarters. Many have been with Moonstruck since the beginning.
Supporting employee health
For these premium chocolate workers, Moonstruck selected Providence Health Plan to provide rich benefits and excellent customer service.
"In customer service, we're looking for there to be a lack of hassle in the payment of claims," Lawler says. "We want to make it easy for employees to understand and use their benefits."
With that in mind, Lawler partnered with her Providence Health Plan account manager, Shirley Goodrich, on a health fair this summer that that was designed "to help employees get to know what benefits we have, such as free life insurance - and cool things like the LifeBalance," a recreational and wellness discount program through Providence Health Plan.
With holiday season now upon us, Moonstruck's chocolate mavens are working in high gear on specialty items and classic gift boxes - a popular corporate gift. Oregonians can enjoy the fruits of their labors at any of five Moonstruck Chocolate Cafés or other quality retail outlets this fall.
