Using Your Pharmacy Benefits
If your health plan has a pharmacy (Rx) benefit, your Rx Summary of Benefits in your member packet will explain your benefits in detail. You can also view your member materials online when you create a myProvidence account.
Prior Authorization
A limited number of medications must be reviewed by physicians and pharmacists at Providence Health Plan in order to be prescribed to members. If your medication requires prior authorization, contact your doctor to get your current medication authorized or change your prescription to an effective alternative medication covered by your pharmacy benefits. View the complete Prior Authorization Drug List (PDF 32kb).
Get Your Prescriptions While Traveling
If you are traveling and forgotten your prescription medication, Providence Health Plan has you covered with more than 18,000 participating pharmacy locations throughout the United States. Members with a pharmacy benefit can pay their copayment or coinsurance for prescription drugs while traveling or residing out of the service area.
These prominent chains are all participating pharmacies: Albertson's, Costco, Fred Meyer, Fry's Food & Drug, Haggen, Hi-School Pharmacy, Kmart Pharmacy, Kroger, Longs Drug Stores, Osco, Rite Aid, Safeway, ShopKo, Walgreens and Wal-Mart. Find a Pharmacy.
Order Prescriptions by Mail
Members with a pharmacy benefit can order prescriptions by mail through Walgreens, Wellpartner, and Postal Prescription Services. Ordering prescriptions by mail saves time and reduces trips to the pharmacy to pickup refills. Plus, if you take maintenance medications to treat a chronic condition, you can order a 90-day supply instead of a 30-day supply.
As of Aug. 1, 2007 or when an Oregon group renews onto the Aug. 2007 contract (and a Washington group onto the 1/2008 contract), a 90-day supply of maintenance medication is available through the mail order and preferred retail stores, such as Fred Meyer, Costco and Walgreens pharmacies. The 90-day supply copayment or coinsurance applies. Not all covered prescription drugs are available by mail order or in a 90-day supply.
In most cases, you can refill prescriptions by mail, phone, fax, or online, and you can have prescriptions sent right to your home, office, or preferred address. Home delivery maintains your confidentiality and you can talk to a pharmacist by phone or send questions by e-mail.
