Providence pharmacist recognized as icon in her field
It's one thing to be great at what you do – it's still another to be deemed an official "icon" in your chosen profession.
Helen Noonan-Harnsberger, Pharm.D., director of pharmacy programs at Providence Health Plans, recently was named an "Icon of Pharmacy" for 2009 by Oregon State University. She also is being inducted into the Pharmacy Hall of Fame at OSU, where she received her undergraduate degree. She received a doctor of pharmacy degree from Purdue University.
In her role with Providence Health Plans in Oregon, Helen manages the pharmacy benefit program with $250 million annualized outpatient prescription drug and injectable medication expenditures. Her responsibilities include prescription benefit design, drug therapy initiatives, clinical pharmacy interventions, formulary development, and pharmacy administration of the 200,000-member health plan.
In her 28 years as a pharmacist, she also has played an active role in improving and supporting the pharmacy profession – including serving as president of both the Oregon Board of Pharmacy and the Oregon Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She has also worked extensively with Project Access NOW and Coalition of Community Health Clinics to provide low-cost pharmacy services to Oregon's most needy residents.
