Sept. 29, 2005
BEAVERTON, Ore. – Providence Health Plan has been approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide Medicare Advantage Part D prescription drug plans, effective January 1, 2006.
“We know prescription drug coverage is an important issue in all of our communities,” said Barbara Christensen, chief sales and marketing officer, Providence Health Plan. “Today’s approval means Providence will continue leading the way in providing better access to health care.”
Providence Medicare Extra has been serving Medicare beneficiaries for 20 years. Current members of Providence Medicare Extra will be enrolled automatically for the new prescription coverage. Members who do not desire to add the coverage will be able to opt-out when they receive their 2006 benefit and premium information.
The Part D drug benefit was created as part of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003. Additional information about the new Medicare prescription drug coverage can be found at this Medicare Web site: www.medicare.gov.
